About EREPS
The European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS) is an independent process for the registering of all instructors, trainers and teachers working across Europe in the exercise and fitness industry. It is a pan-European system, based on independent national registers, culminating in a central European database.
Registration means that an exercise professional has met prescribed minimum standards of good practice including the adoption of a Code of Ethical Practice and that they are committed to raising standards through a process of continuing professional development.
There are 35 counties within the geographic area of Europe which will be included within the development of EREPS.
What is EREPS?
- It is independent, working to the membership of the European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA) through the EHFA Board, Standards Council and Technical Expert Group(s)
- Using EHFA standards developed by technical experts through the Standards Council and technical expert groups and based on EQF and ECVET
- Operates as a pan-Europe register from Brussels but delivered through each nation
- Administered and authenticated by an agent in each country which will usually be the national federation or association who will be members of EHFA
- It provides a registration process (sometimes called a 'license to practice') for exercise professionals across Europe clearly understandable by operators and consumers
- A public register
- Members must abide by a Code of Ethical Practice defining the rights, responsibilities and principles of being an exercise professional
- A member of the International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals - ICREPS- a world solution to recognising qualified exercise professionals
- It is a not-for-profit organisation owned by EHFA and exists to support the professionals needs of its members and the European fitness industry
What do members get?
- On meeting the necessary requirements, members of EREPS are issued with a unique certificate of registration and membership card which explains their status of registration. They become members of their own national Register of Exercise Professionals and also the European Register
- Their name and status of registration is entered onto the Register and available for search and validation by members of the public and operators. This can help promote the achievements of exercise professionals, including recruitment and employment
- EREPS maintains confidentiality and data protection requirements ensuring that all personal details are kept safe and in line with the law.
- Entry to EREPS is by qualification but existing workers can apply for provisional entry for a maximum of 1 year. They have to:
- Complete an on-line exam based on EHFA standards (and reference area available)- the cost is included within the first year registration fee.
- Complete a minimum of 1 year professional experience in a template log book.
- Obtain reference and testimony from employer/other exercise professional.
EREPS will also help to support its members by providing:
- Access to specialist liability and indemnity insurance
- Signposting to quality controlled training solutions
- Providing career guidance
- Journals and electronic newsletters, news and events
- Discounted merchandising
