ACSM reveals worldwide fitness trends for 2022

For the past 15 years, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)’s Health & Fitness Journal® has circulated an electronic survey to thousands of professionals around the world to determine health and fitness trends for the following year. The results of this worldwide survey for 2022 have just been issued, providing some useful insights. These insights will be invaluable in informing the plans for growth and development of educational training providers and individual fitness professionals across Europe and elsewhere.

EREPS surveys show the negative impact of Covid-19 but reveal positive and innovative industry adaptations to meet the skills challenges and opportunities of the future.

The results from the latest EREPS member and employer surveys are indicative of the turmoil Covid-19 has created over the last 18 months. Fitness professionals and clubs have been negatively impacted individually and collectively. However, despite these tough times both groups are planning for the future and the opportunities that this will bring.

Thanks to an important collaboration between the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS), a European survey on fitness trends is now a reality. Alexis Batrakoulis, the Professional Standards Committee’s Deputy Director for EREPS, has served as the study’s author.
