Helsinki Evangelical College (HEO) was founded in 1949 and it is currently the largest government funded Folk High School (People’s College) in Finland having over 350 full-time students every year.
HEO Sports and Health Science programme started in the autumn 2011 and it has been going strong ever since. During the first two years of that programme HEO provided the Health Promotion and Health Education (25 ECTS) studies through the University of Eastern Finland in conjunction with the Personal Trainer studies, which have been conducted in accordance with Fisaf-standards through an independent provider. During the academic year 2013-2014 HEO added into its Sports and Health Science programme the Sports and Excercise Medicine (25 ECTS) studies from the University of Eastern Finland and made a move towards a more European mode of education in Personal Trainer studies by applying EHFA accreditation/standards for herself.
