The aim of this course is to provide fitness professionals with an overarching understanding of nutrition knowledge, weight loss principles and supplementation to better a client's performance outcomes. In addition, this course will support fitness professionals in understanding their scope of practice and how their expertise in fitness can interlink with other health and well-being professionals, such as Nutritionists, Dieticians, Doctors and Health Psychologists.

Each stage of the course will include a video course, a written synopsis of key points, a suggestion to how this information fits into their scope of practice, and finally a test of the knowledge learnt at each stage. Moreover, with all continued professional development it’s important to reflect on how this can be applied to you practice, and what are your key takeaway points. Reflective questions will be included at the end of each section that can be included within the write up and reflection of this course.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this course, participants will;

● Understand a Personal Trainer or fitness professional's scope of practice within their field.

● Additionally, they will understand how their scope of practice works alongside and in support of the advice of another healthcare professional such as Nutritionists, Dieticians, Doctors and Health Psychologists.

● Understand the basic principles of macronutrients - protein, carbohydrates and fats.

● Understand the basic principles of energy expenditure

● Understand common methods of weight loss, how they work & how they can be applied alongside a fitness regime.

● Understand the differences between an everyday diet and one that is tailored towards sporting performance, weight loss or recovery.

● Understand how supplementation can be used to better the diet, or, improve sporting performance

● Understand the possible signs of disordered eating

● Establish clear client referral pathways to various health and nutrition professionals based on client needs.
