What?s in the curriculum?
The ACE Weight Management Specialist Program is designed for experienced health and fitness professionals, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, medical assistants, and members of the allied health and community health team. You will learn behavior change strategies to help your clients reach their weight loss goals safely and effectively through diet and exercise. These individualized strategies include developing rapport to create a more empathetic environment that encourages success.
How do I become an ACE Weight Management Specialist?
To become an ACE Weight Management Specialist, you will complete each of the modules listed below, as well as complete the quizzes associated with the material.
Anyone may complete the Weight Management Specialist Program, but only those who also hold a current NCCA-accredited certification or an equivalent professional credential will be recognized as an ACE Specialist.
The ACE Weight Management Specialist Program is designed for experienced health and fitness professionals certified with ACE and other organizations, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, medical assistants, community leaders and members of the allied health team.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will:

Understand the basic science behind obesity and the physiological impact a high body mass index can have on the body's systems

Learn to recognize weight bias and discover why using "people first" language is especially important when working with clients affected by obesity

Discover why communicating on a deeper level using the BRIDGE method and empathy will help facilitate a collaborative, empowering relationship

Learn the basic concepts of behavior change and key strategies to utilize with clients

Learn how to apply nutritional guidelines, within the fitness profesional's scope of practice, to clients impacted by weight management issues or obesity

Learn why starting out right with exercise is especially important when working with clients impacted weight management issues or obesity, especially considering possible past negative associations with physical activity

Learn key strategies to prevent the onset of pediatric obesity, which is especially important considering creating healthy behaviors early on leads to healthier lives as adults

Learn how working with various medical and allied health sub-specialties can help ACE Weight Management Specialists most effectively guide clients to sustainable weight management

Learning assessments for this course consist of a quiz at the end of each of the nine modules in the online learning management system. Participants may attempt each quiz until they pass. A passing grade of 70% for all of the quizzes is required for successful completion of the course.
