Current health / fitness professionals who wish to provide physical training to individual clients who are diagnosed with cancer and which are no longer in need of supervised physical (revalidation) therapy in a clinical setting. According to pre-determined guidelines the trainer assesses the clients physical condition and provides a physical training plan that meets the clients current condition.
Below requisites are strongly advised but not oblidged
- General knowledge in the field of anatomy
- General knowledge in the field of training principles and physiology
- General knowledge regarding training methods
- General knowledge regarding health complaints (Obesity, diabetes etc.)
- General knowledge regarding health assessment and fitness testing (cycle-testing, fat percentage etc.)

Chapter 1
-The candidate is able to describe the role of a Oncology Exercise Trainer
-The candidate is able to describe the working field of a Oncology Exercise Trainer
-The candidate has taken note of the usage of the name Oncology Exercise Trainer
-The candidate has taken note of the guidelines regarding (re)certification
-The candidate has taken note of the current prevalence of cancer in the Netherlands
-The candidate is able to give a description about the top-5 most common types of cancer in men and women in the Netherlands
Chapter 2
-The candidate is able to give a description about cancer as a disease
-The candidate is able to give a description about the several symptoms that may occur with cancer
-The candidate is able to describe several types of cancer (prostate-, colon-, breast- lung)
-The candidate is able to give a description of the way cancer originates and spreads throughout the body
Chapter 3
-The candidate is able to give a description of the several possible origin factors of cancer
-The candidate is able to connect lifestyle habits in relation to prevalence of cancer
-The candidate is able to connect physical activity in relation to prevalence of cancer
-The candidate is able to connect dietary habits in relation to the prevalence of cancer

Chapter 4
-The candidate is able to give a description of the most common treatment methods against cancer
-The candidate is able to give a description of curative, (neo)adjuvant and palliative treatment methods
-The candidate is able to give a description of several adjuvant treatment methods against cancer
-The candidate is able to give a description of multiple side-effects that may occur with the treatment of cancer
Chapter 5
-The candidate is able to give a description of benefits physical activity may have in patients that diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate is able to give a description of which systems in the body are affected by treatment methods
-The candidate is able to give a description of which systems in the body are affected by physical activity
-The candidate is able to give a description of the effect treatment methods may have on the aerobic capacity, muscle power and flexibility
-The candidate is able to formulate an individual advice for improving or maintaining aerobic capacity, muscle power or flexibility.
Chapter 6
-The candidate is able to point out in which way a healthy diet may contribute to the prevention of cancer
-The candidate is able to provide guidelines in relation to the intake of healthy food
-The candidate is up-to-date regarding the current BMI classification
Chapter 7
-The candidate, together with the client, is able to determine the current physical condition and load ability of a patient diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate is able to estimate if other (clinical) care is necessary
-The candidate has knowledge of the several specialism and expertise that may contribute to improving the physical condition of a patient diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate has taken note of multiple sources, institutes and initiatives that may contribute to a professional and safe guidance towards a healthy lifestyle of a patient diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate is able to use the ?exercise and sports guidance in cancer? knowledge file during the intake with a patient diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate is brought up to speed by the new laws in relation to privacy protection
Chapter 8
-The candidate is able to assess the clients physical capacity by using multiple fitness testing methods (steep ramp, 6 minute walk test)
-The candidate is brought up to speed about multiple training methods which may connect to the need of a patient diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate is able to formulate a general advice to a patient diagnosed with cancer which allows them to stay physically active within their capabilities
-The candidate, together with the client, is able to assess the physical capacity measured in MET outcome
-The candidate, together with the client, is able to assess the physical capacity using a submaximal 1RM test.
Chapter 9
-The candidate is able to make a right estimation of the patient diagnosed with cancer?s current condition
-The candidate is able to, in a responsible way, create a training plan for maintaining or improving the physical condition in a patient that is diagnosed with cancer
-The candidate is able to recognize at which point clinical care would be appropriate
-The candidate is able to interpret, discuss and use a written advice coming from a (clinical) specialist
-The candidate is able to describe the impact several treatments methods may have on the body
-The candidate is able to provide a safe physical activity advice following treatment
-The candidate has taken note of multiple sources, services and initiatives that may contribute to the professional guidance of a patient that is diagnosed with cancer.

In order to provide proof that the candidate has gained sufficient knowledge during the course there will be a theoretical exam on day 4. The exam will consist out of 60 multiple choice questions and will be taken with a hardcopy paper version  in a face-to-face classroom setting. The exam is either pass or no-pass. The minimum passing grade is a 70%  good score or higher. Upon passing the exam the candidate will receive a certificate.
