The European Commission recognises the ability of sport to break down barriers. As with any physical activity, fitness can be a powerful tool to bring together people from all kinds of backgrounds – in particular from disadvantaged groups – too. The #BeInclusive EU Sport Awards want to highlight and celebrate activities, projects and programmes that do so.
The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and UK Coaching have announced an agreement to combine the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) with the CIMSPA Exercise and Fitness Directory, creating a single directory for exercise and fitness professionals in the UK, which will be closely aligned with the European Register of Exercise Professionals. Sport England CEO, Tim Hollingsworth made the announcement at the CIMSPA & QUEST NBS Conference on 27th February.
At the recent International Standards Meeting, taking place on 21 and 22 November in Copenhagen, Denmark - Julian Berriman, the Director of the Professional Standards Committee, outlined some of EuropeActive’s plans for a European Certifying Organisation.
Last April one could read on the EuropeActive’s blog about the need for fitness professionals (~90,000) in the member states of the EU. An update of these numbers came in recently, by CEDEFOP's work on analysing recent job vacancies. The find: the current European labour market has 103,481 online vacancies for fitness and recreation instructors.
