This course aims to provide the learner with a comprehensive understanding of the science behind nutrition and its impact on human health across biological and psychological dimensions. The course delves into advanced nutrition physiology through popular nutrition topics and trends, and explores how to assist clients in reaching their health goals and minimize the risk of various lifestyle diseases through informed nutritional choices. Additionally, learners will gain proficiency in assessing clients, recognising when to refer them to other professionals, and knowing when to assist themselves.
Upon finishing this course, the learner has acquired the requisite knowledge to effectively coach clients on recommended dietary requirements, debunk common myths surrounding popular diets, and understand how nutrition can comprehensively impact human health. Furthermore the learner will:

The course learning style is asynchronous learning, meaning the learner may learn on their own schedule, within a certain timeframe.

Learning Outcomes:
Part I - The effect of nutrition on health
This part of the Advanced Nutrition course will commence with a walkthrough of how human health is strongly connected with dietary choices, and explore the ways in which poor nutrition habits affect health. Furthermore, the various nutritional guidelines from Europe and the US will be covered.
Part 2 - Popular Diets
In this section, the learner will receive an overview of the most renowned and prevalent dietary approaches and their underlying principles. Additionally, the shared characteristics among various diets and the scientific substantiation behind them will be explored. Lastly this part looks at how you can work with specific dietary patterns in your online health coaching.
Part 3 - Processed foods
In this part, the learner will gain knowledge of how the different degrees of food processing affect human health. Also the learner will learn key takeaways for how to apply the knowledge in their coaching.
Part 4 - Gut health
This part presentes background knowledge about how nutrition and the gut microbiome are connected, and also how nutrition can affect the gut microbiome in either a positive or negative direction.
Overall, the learner will be introduced to the rapidly evolving sciences and research on gut health and the suggested importance it has for overall health, function and wellbeing.
Part 5 - Nutrition & Lifestyle Disease
In this part the learner will acquire knowledge about how nutrition can be used to prevent, alleviate, and potentially reverse the most widely known lifestyle diseases.
Part 6 - Food allergies and intolerances
In this part the learner will gain insight into the most common food allergies and intolerances, how to guide individuals with them, and what the latest scientific evidence states.
Part 7 - Alcohol and its effect on health
In this part the learner will gain knowledge about the effect alcohol has on aspects of human health, such as liver damage, impacts on the gastrointestinal tract and the risk of cancer.
Part 8 - Food & Mood
In this part the learner will gain knowledge about how nutrition can affect the risk of mental wellbeing. They will also learn about specific food components that may be responsible for these associations.
Part 9 - Assessing diet quality of clients
In this last part the learner will be guided through the principles of assessing diet quality of clients, including the use of validated assessment tools, and what to do if you suspect that a client needs referral to a medical provider.
